The Department of Defense has identified 3,848 American service members who have died since the start of the Iraq war. It confirmed the deaths of the following Americans last week:

TIFFNER, Benjamin D., 31, Capt., Army; Roane County, W.Va.; Fifth Special Forces Group.

TUMANUVAO, Lui, 29, Sgt., Army; Fagaalu, American Samoa; Third Infantry Division.
